Happy Wednesday friends and welcome back to my blog! This week is all about one of my favorite makeup products, mascara! Many of you have been asking me what mascara I use, and I can’t wait to share all of my favorites with you! I will also give you the rundown on how to achieve the perfect mascara look specifically tailored to YOUR lashes! You can search for the best brand of mascara all day long but using the right size and shape for your lashes is what really makes all the difference! Come along with me as I share with you the many different types of mascara wands and help you find the best one for you!

What’s Your Eyelash Type?

Before we dive into which mascara wand is right for you, I have a mission for you! I want you to get up and walk to the nearest mirror (or open up your camera phone, whichever works) and really get to know your natural lash! What do you see? How do they feel? You may notice that they are long and straight, or short and tightly curled. They may feel super light and feathery or coarse and dense. Getting to know your natural lashes and what you want your desired look to be is the first step in choosing the perfect mascara wand for you!

Types of Mascara Wands

Now that you know what type of natural lash you have, it’s time to find the right wand to achieve your desired look! Exciting! Here are the four main mascara wands and what to expect from each:

  1. Cone

This wand is going to help you reach the inner corner of your lashes which can be difficult to get with larger, more rounded wands without a mess. The more narrow the tip is at the end of the wand, the easier it is to get those smaller lashes!

    2. Bubble

If you have stick-straight lashes and you’re all about the curl, then this wand is going to be your bestie! This type of mascara wand is going to give you the volume that you need from the root to the tip of your lashes. So if you struggle with volume, look for a wand that looks like a bubble!

    3. Rectangle

This is going to be the most common type of mascara wand that you will find. The larger the bristles, the more volume and lift you’re going to get. The larger rectangular brush is especially good if you have dense, curly lashes! The smaller rectangular brush is going to be your go-to if you have stick-straight lashes that are on the shorter side because it’s going to be able to go from the root to the tip to give you that extra volume and hit those smaller lashes in your corners!

    4. Curved

The curved wand is going to not only give you a good it of volume to your upper lashes, but it’s also really great for your bottom lashes to give them a nice, light coat! Go for a smaller curved wand to get right into the root of the lashes and work your way to the tip to give your stick-straight lashes more of a curl!

PRO TIP: If you’re still wanting to add an extra curl to your lashes, use a heated eyelash curler! Just hold it up against your lashes after applying mascara!

Check out this video for more detail on what each mascara wand is used for and which products have me hooked!

MAKEUP TIP: Hold the mascara brush at the base of your lashes and gently wiggle the wand back and forth and then sweep up and through to the tips. This helps coat more of your lashes and prevent clumps!
