Prep Your Eyes | Hooded Eyes

Prepping your eyes is going to be one of the biggest keys to having that smooth finish eyeshadow! We want to make sure that we prime our eyelids all the way up to the brow bone in order to achieve the smoothest look possible. The primer will act as a ‘gripper’ to really grab on to they eyeshadow and have the colors shine at their brightest pigment! A couple of my favorite primers are the Mac Paint Pot and the Rare Beauty Eye Primer.

Check out all the primers I have linked below, these are my absolute favorite that I can NOT live without!

MAKEUP TIP: Lightly pull up on the brow bone / hood of eye to ensure we get the full eyelid covered and prepped!

Tools for Hooded Eyes

I know the amount of makeup brushes that are offered can be overwhelming, so we resort back to that same ole brush for everything! Give that poor girl a break! It doesn’t have to be complicated, follow my tips below for the must have tools for hooded eyes!

You want to use tools that are smaller to highlight the certain areas we want to target specifically, which I will discuss a few more scrolls down. The key brushes we will focus on below are the defined blending brush, shimmer brush, and eyeshadow smudging brush! We want to apply our main transition shade with the defined blending brush. If you only have one, make sure to shake off the initial color BEFORE adding any other darker shades! We will then go in with the blending brush to blend the two colors for a seamless look. Lastly, we’ll go in with the shimmer brush to add a little of highlight in the inner corner of the lid!

MAKEUP TIP: Highlight above and below the brow bone for a natural lift and added light.

MAKEUP TIP: Make sure to keep your eyes open while applying eyeshadow to make sure you can see where the color is being applied. You also want to apply the shade higher than your natural crease to give a more lifted look.

Favorite Color Combos for Hooded Eyes

As I mentioned in my blog from last week, I love a good matte shade, typically the darker shade, on the outer crease of the eyelid. Combined with a beautiful shimmer on the inside of the lid and the inner corner to really compliment the dark matte shade! This combination is my absolute fave for an easy way to really make your beautiful eyes stand out!

Check out my YouTube videos on this topic as I dive deeper in the tips along with MORE brushes that will make this process even easier!

MAKEUP TIP: Don’t brush sideways, this can cause skipping of the brush and uneven application.

I absolutely ADORE this pink sweater with the chunky boots! Combining these two are the perfect spring time look that is comfortable! As always, these jeans are a staple in my closet and pair well with almost everything in every season!
