Top 10 Makeup Products Every Woman Needs for Mature Skin

#1 A Good Facial Oil

As we age, our skin for most of us becomes drier. The drier the skin, the more our fine lines and wrinkles and texture become enhanced. Drinking lots of water helps bring back hydration, but also using skincare that will help hydrate is key to your makeup laying well on your face. You can also use a facial oil to prep the undereye area, mix it with your foundation or concealer for glowing skin and apply it before bed to wake up hydrated and glowy. One more tip…apply your skincare to a damp face. Your skincare will be absorbed much better!

#2 Cleansing Balm

Throw away those makeup wipes and soaps that you have been using for years to remove your makeup. They are just drying out your skin and leaving extra makeup on. Instead, opt for a cleansing balm. It is nourishing, hydrating and melts the makeup off the face without making your skin feel tight or dry.

#3 A Primer made for your Skin Type

First off, I don’t believe in skipping primer. It is the product between your skincare and makeup that “grips” the makeup to your face and makes your makeup last so much longer! Make sure if you use cream makeup, that your primer does not contain silicone or dimethicone as it will make your makeup separate or feel oily. Picking a primer made for your skin type is also really important. Here are some of my favorites broken down by dry skin and oily/combo skin

#4 Setting Spray for Long Lasting Makeup

Years ago, I never knew setting spray was a thing. Once I started using it, I will never go back and you should be using it too. Why? It helps hold your makeup onto the face. The one thing people don’t know about setting spray? You should be using it 3 x during your makeup routine. Before applying your makeup, sprayed on your brush before blending your makeup, and then again to set your makeup. Make sure to spray your face so that it is damp each time and then let it dry. Your makeup will not move! Promise!

#5 Cream Makeup

If you have ever noticed as your skin matures, the liquid or powder foundations you use aren’t quite working anymore. Why? Because they contain water that dehydrates the skin, sits in fine and wrinkles and can start to wear off by the end of the day. Powders can accentuate fine lines and make dry skin appear drier. Cream makeup, is lightweight and softens texture and fine lines on the face. It acts like a second layer of skin and moves with the skin. It is extremely pigmented so a little goes a long way and contains no water. I currently use Seint and can colormatch you to cream makeup if you would like.

#6 Cream Bronzer

A good cream bronzer is the best way to bring warmth back into the face. As we age, we lose that natural glow in our skin. We can become more pale and even washed out with our makeup. A cream bronzer is soft, skinlike and can add some warmth and youthfulness back into the skin. Try it! You will be surprised!

#7 Blush for a more youthful appearance

Have you noticed your skin looking more pale or not as youthful? That’s because as we age our skin appears more dull and our natural flush we had from when we were younger is non existent. Using a cream blush or powder blush can bring back the youthfulness and flush to the skin. Instead of picking a neutral blush, opt for a brighter more vibrant blush color like pink or coral. That pop of color will give brightness to the face.

#8 Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a must no matter your age, but finding one that is perfect for you can be challenging. Sunscreen should be applied after your skincare and before your primer and makeup. Make sure your sunscreen doesn’t contain silicone or dimethicone if you are using cream makeup too.

#9 Eyelash Curler

As we age our eyelashes can thin and even become more straight. Curling your lashes before applying mascara can lift and open the eyes. My favorite eyelash curler actually warms the lashes instead of clamping them down like the old fashioned curlers.

#10 The Right Makeup Brushes

As we age, our face changes. Our eyes become more hooded, our undereyes get more texture and using the right brushes can be a game changer for how your makeup applies. Here are some of my favorites. Use code Laurenhale10 for 10% off bk beauty brushes
